Our services

Three departments. One standard of instruction.

We begin with the subjects our founder knows deeply and teach exceptionally well. Every subject is offered in person across the North Shore and virtually anywhere.

A

Mathematics

Grades 3–11 · foundational through Algebra II

Mathematics is where confidence is won or lost. We work on the reasoning behind each procedure so that a student can explain why a method works — and knows what to do when a problem doesn’t look like the example.

How we teach it

Students work through problems aloud with a tutor who asks questions instead of handing over steps. When an error appears, we look at the reasoning that produced it. Formulas are understood before they are drilled, and unfamiliar problems become something to try rather than something to fear.

Subjects offered

  • Elementary mathematics
  • Arithmetic and foundational skills
  • Pre-algebra
  • Algebra I
  • Geometry
  • Algebra II
  • Homework support and exam preparation

What students leave with

  • Explaining a solution in their own words
  • Recognizing and correcting their own errors
  • A reliable approach to unfamiliar problems
  • Less anxiety, more willingness to attempt
B

Writing & Communication

Grades 6–12 · essays, analysis, and argument

Writing instruction here is not grammar correction and formatting — it is learning how an argument is built, defended, and tested.

How we teach it

We start with the student’s own idea and press on it: what is the claim, what evidence actually supports it, where is it weakest? Drafts are revised for reasoning before they are revised for style, so students learn to think in structure rather than fill a page.

Subjects offered

  • Argumentative essay writing
  • Thesis development
  • Essay structure and organization
  • Evidence-based reasoning
  • Counterargument development
  • Critical reading and comprehension
  • Analytical and persuasive writing
  • Academic writing fundamentals

What students leave with

  • A clear, defensible thesis
  • Evidence selected and explained, not dropped in
  • Honest engagement with opposing views
  • Clearer sentences and stronger structure
C

History & Social Studies

Grades 6–12 · world, European, and United States history

History rewards students who can think in context. We teach cause and effect, competing perspectives, and evidence-based interpretation instead of a list of dates to memorize.

How we teach it

Primary and secondary sources are read together and questioned: who wrote this, when, for whom, and what does it leave out? Students practice turning that analysis into document-based writing that makes an argument rather than summarizing a chapter.

Subjects offered

  • Middle school history
  • United States history
  • European history
  • Historical reading comprehension
  • Primary and secondary source analysis
  • Historical argumentation
  • Document-based writing

What students leave with

  • Reading a source critically rather than literally
  • Placing events in cause and effect
  • Building an argument from documents
  • Retaining the story, not just the dates
